So Much For The Cracker Cure

Saltines and ginger ale. At least twice a month, and sometimes more often, nausea would render me incapable of eating much more than crackers and ginger ale.

Well, last night, 2 weeks into this whole gluten-free experiment, I attended a party. Unthinkingly, after I’d helped the hostess put out some hors d’oeuvres, I ate a few crackers with cheese.

Five crackers in, I realized that the crackers were gluten-full. I flat out wasn’t thinking.

During an otherwise gluten-free dinner, my stomach started to rumble. By the time I got home, I was running for the bathroom. And still running this morning.

Maybe something else I ate triggered the reaction, or some anxiety unrelated to food. But it was rather striking to have had a relatively calm 2-week period digestion-wise, then eat 5 little crackers and take a plunge back toward the old status quo.
