A Month at the Gym – Is This a Habit Yet?

About a month ago, our class leader asked us to set a goal for the week ahead, and I opted for going to the gym 5 times in the next 7 days. As you can see in the sidebar, I accomplished that goal, going five times between August 11th and the 16th.

I’m still limited, because of the low-calorie nature of this program, to doing only 30 minutes of cardio exercise on any given day. Additionally, I don’t max out my heart rate, because I literally have so little in my tank that I can’t push that hard.

I have, however, graduated from walking a mile or a mile and a half around the track to going at least 1 and a half or two miles on the elliptical trainer, which feels like an improvement. I will bump up my heart rate for short springs, like 30 seconds, or the last 10 seconds of every minute for the middle five minutes of the workout, but I believe that because I am in better shape, I recover faster from those intervals, and my heart rate drops back down again more quickly.

I’m excited and proud to report that I’m going to the gym more or less every other day. Rapid weight loss is still my goal while on all-liquid, but in about 30 days, that will come to an end, so I want to be ready to start that transition to pushing harder for longer and working out five times every week, maybe six times. I’ll also be able to add strength training into the plan, which will be awesome. I love lifting.

So, my one-week goal from a month ago has pretty much become my regular goal. I went 16 out of 31 days in August, and I’ve been 7 out of 13 days so far this month (I plan to go today, which would mean 8 days, but I won’t count it until I go!).

Yea, me! To celebrate, I went to buy 3 new gym t-shirts last night, and found a sports-esque bra that was 50% off and in my size to boot. I say sports-esque because I’m not sure it has much better support than most of my regular bras, but it is purpose-built for sports.

Some day, I’m going to have to find an actual sports bra. I’m open to suggestions if you have them. I’ve been putting off going to the fancy lingerie store because I don’t want to deal with their attitude. I am not certain they will have an attitude, but I have come to expect snooty attitudes from shop clerks who don’t think big women deserve real clothes.

Do you think I’ll weigh even less when I get that chip off my shoulder? 😉

Not sure what size you are, but I love Moving Comfort’s Fiona bras. I’m in a 40D, and they do the job well – even when I’m running. They’re not inexpensive, and I’ve only ever found them on sale once (so I bought 5!) but I highly recommend them. I get mine at Road Runner Sports (roadrunnersports.com).

I’m going to try one – we’re the same size, so I appreciate the recommendation. There are a few online sites that do a great job of posting review (www.herroom.com) but it can take forever to wade through all of the options. Thank you!
