Vacation Success

We got back last night from spending time in the country, and this morning, I was very anxious to check my weight. As we drove away from the house, heading out, I wondered if I should have brought my scale, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to convince anyone else to go back for it.

I did OK exercising the first few days we were gone, but I’ll be honest, I dropped down to the 3-4,000 steps/day level of (in)activity for most of the trip. I didn’t eat much, either, but on our last night, I did have three bites of dessert, and savored every last atom of it.

Late last night, I pulled down a pair of pants out of a bin in my closet, a pair I tried on early in December that were still way too tight. They fit. I felt encouraged. So, this morning, with thunder and lightening starting to rumble, I woke early and headed for the scale.

I was down 2.5 pounds, a very respectable number. What a relief. I’ve now lost 28% of my starting body weight, and am 14 pounds away from my target weight.

The same night I ate dessert, I also had red meat for dinner. It was axis venison. Axis are an imported deer breed that are ranched/farmed in Texas and several other states.

So there it is. I’m a Texan who enjoys red meat, even wild game. I hope you will still like me. I’m a meat-eater. I once gave it up, and I’m very sympathetic to many of the reasons people choose vegan or vegetarian diets, but I’m not there. I try to eat ethically-raised, hormone-free meat, but I’m quite sure that when I hit our favorite Tex-Mex joints, they’re not enforcing those rules, and I’m living with that for now.

The 4 oz. serving size was more than I could eat, but it packed a real punch, both taste and nutrition-wise, with 26 g of protein and 120 calories, compared to 4 oz. of chicken breast, which has more protein (35 g) but 180 calories, or sirloin, which has slightly less protein but almost double the calories.

I’d known that venison was leaner than beef, but being reminded of how much more flavorful it is means I’m now determined to find a good source here in town.

14 lbs from goal! That’s amazing! Congrats! You are so hardcore. It’s really inspiring. When I packed my things to move, I didn’t bring my scale. I have a pretty good relationship with my scale, seeing small losses throughout the week motivates me to keep up the good work. We’ll see how I do without it.

You are so close to your goal! That is amazing! Congratulations on the jeans fitting. That is always such a great feeling, as well as a good motivator too. And, of course I still like you, silly! 🙂

Wooooohooooo:) I hope you did a super scale victory dance, in your now-fitting pants.

Seriously, that is amazing Andie, and very inspirational. Also, it’s 10.14 am and I’m drooooooooling over your meat description. Is that wrong-om-nom-nom-nom?

I just checked the price on venison at the grocery store – suffice it to say, I think it might be cheaper for me to buy a license and go hunting myself. Should’ve stocked up in the country.
